With a provocative title like that I assume you might want to find out why I’m voting for President Donald J. Trump this November 3, 2020. Here are some overarching principles which guide my decision:

1. Actions. Actions speak louder than words. Regardless of what you might think of President Trump’s choice of words, his occasional profanity, his verbal attacks on his opponents, words are cheap. It is defined by the Merriam-Webster online dictionary as being “aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues, especially issues of racial and social injustices.” It is a relatively new slang term that has gained momentum during recent months. The year was 1942. My Dad, Irving W. Woolf, left the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL to join the Army-Air Corps (forerunner to the United States Air Force). Like many young men his age, Dad wanted to join the military and defend our nation from the Nazis. How should Christians respond when they see our way of life threatened and our nation divided and at a crossroad? How do we respond to riots in our major cities, police being attacked and gunned down in our streets, fires consuming hundreds of homes and thousands of acres on the west coast, and mandated masks to ward off a deadly, invisible enemy?  Is the election of a president or a congress the answer? Christ Jesus came into this world to die for relationships. He died that we might be reconciled to God, having a relationship with His Father and with one another. He died that His Church might be one even as He and the Father are one. In John 17:11, Christ prays for unity, the oneness of the church. He has to ask His Father for help because unity does not come naturally to sinners. Disunity does.

Unity is oneness. It is marked by being like-minded and like-hearted. It is being on the “same page” with one another. It involves setting aside personal rights and agendas for the greater good of the whole.
